This nonprofit organization operates out of the Bellshill YMCA and provides services for families and individuals in need. Their work includes food parcels and essentials to help those in need. The organization offers a variety of services for children and adults, including financial education, legal assistance, and social work. They also help those in need navigate the health care system. Whether they are battling addiction or need help finding a job, Communities Together can help them.
In addition to building social capital, Communities Together events foster new initiatives in the community. A 2015 study by the Institute for Policy and Civic Engagement found that On the Table helped participants improve community relations by increasing social capital, the bonds between individuals and organizations. In addition, 16 percent of the 2014 participants developed a new idea or raised awareness of a social issue. Many participants exchanged contact information with one another after attending On the Table. Ultimately, these initiatives are creating a better Chicago community.
